Amanda Salmon

After many years of working with young people through church and camp ministries, Amanda had the opportunity to work as a Student Chaplain at Columbia Bible College, serving college-age students and as a Youth Leader in the high school youth group at Parkside Church in Mission, BC. These opportunities ignited a passion for serving and spending time with teenagers and young adults–an age group Amanda describes as “interesting and often hilarious and just amazing people!”

Amanda has enjoyed coaching disc golf, basketball and volleyball when her four kids needed a coach. Her family is a huge part of her life, and she has enjoyed each stage of the journey along with her husband, Derek. Derek and Amanda have travelled to Oregon, Washington and even Las Vegas to play disc golf. They are worship leaders of one of the teams at their church and are blessed to have the “Salmon Family Band” up front with their daughters singing and their oldest son playing drums–they are open to their youngest son singing along at some point if he wants to.

Amanda believes these experiences have helped her develop into a Youth Outreach Worker at the Youth Unlimited ministry called the Mission Youth House (MY House). She believes God led her to volunteer at MY House in 2023. She found herself energized by the youth guests’ response to her. They were so open to having deep conversations and responded to her listening, loving presence.

When a position with MY House came available, she was overjoyed that she could be exactly who she is: a mom, a Christian, and use her skills, training, and experience in counselling, chaplaincy, and Youth work. Amanda wants to be the hands and feet of Jesus with at-risk and vulnerable youth through practical care for their needs at MY House (like cooking meals, teaching life skills, offering clothing, laundry and shower facilities), as well as caring for their mental health and spiritual wellbeing.
