Cecil Rast

Cecil has been working with Youth Unlimited since he was recruited, fresh out of bible school, 31 years ago. With some persuasion from the Executive Director at the time, he quickly realized it was his calling to serve the youth of Vancouver through YU, and he signed on as a field worker. Years later, Cecil now serves as the Area Director in Surrey and East Vancouver.

“My job is to encourage and support the calling to ministry of each person on the team. I love to do what I can to make their job a little easier and more fulfilling.”

Because of how long he’s been in ministry, Cecil has been able to build relationships with kids that have evolved over the years into deep friendships that feel like family. Though his role at YU is now more supervisory, these lifelong relationships from his earlier ministry continue to add even more meaning to his work.

Cecil has seen the proof that lives are being changed through the programs and relationships that allow YU staff to walk alongside young people. “Every day, we meet amazing young kids who, despite their brokenness, are making heroic efforts for change and growth.” Cecil also finds inspiration through his team of youth workers. “I love the community of YU and the support we have for one another.”

When Cecil isn’t on the job or travelling the globe, you can usually find him on the golf course in the summer, on the slopes in the winter, or spending quality time with his truck year round.
