Haruka Hikichi

Graphic Designer
Born and raised in Japan, I experienced the challenges of being the only Christian at my school from kindergarten all the way through to college. This journey, though tough, brought me closer to God’s Word and promises. With my background and experiences, I look forward to seeing how God will use me at YU, both personally and professionally.
Before my time at YU, I worked remotely in Japan for a Korean company, where I created promotional banners tailored for a Japanese online platform, focusing on the beauty industry. I grew up in a beautiful hometown about a five-hour drive north of Tokyo, known for its stunning ocean views and forests, surrounded by a warm community. My church plays a significant role in my life. I was actively involved in my home church, which is situated in one of Japan’s less-reached areas. Despite the challenges, we gather nearly 100 people each Sunday. Here I got to use some of my design skills to contribute by designing packaging and posters for our church-owned café, aiming to foster a welcoming atmosphere.
I also love travelling and had the chance to explore several Asian countries this year with friends, including Taiwan and South Korea.
I’m passionate about learning new languages and am currently learning 11 different ones! My heart is also set on bringing Christian resources to Japan, particularly to reach those in less-reached areas.
Designing has always been a passion of mine since childhood, and I feel blessed that God opened the door for me to study and grow in this field. I’m excited to continue this journey within a Christian organization, hoping to merge my skills with my faith.
