Makenzie saw the work God was doing through Youth Unlimited and felt called to join them in loving youth through being an intentional and consistent mentor.
Appreciating how middle school and high school are such impressionable and vulnerable times in a person’s life, Makenzie sees the value in having an older mentor who shows God’s love in practical ways. As a part of our Abbotsford team working in Eugene Reimer Middle School, she connects with youth through school support, helping with the after school club and coaching basketball. In the true YU way, she meets youth where they’re at and gets involved with their interests; building trust and comfort to allow connections to blossom.
Not only does Makenzie show up for youth through her work with YU, but she helps to empower them by volunteering for a youth restorative justice program. She also leads youth at her church, South Abbotsford Church, which is where her path towards working with youth began. Studying social work at UFV, her heart and skills for taking care of her community are consistently growing.
Makenzie’s free time is spent filled with people, play and appreciation; spending time with friends and family, playing basketball in an Abbotsford women’s league, meeting with her small group and going for long drives in the beauty of BC.
Together we can transform the world our youth live in—but we can’t do it without you.
