Growing up in the 80’s, Sandra had limitless freedom. “I grew up in a comfortable suburban home, no seatbelts and huge freedom to explore the community as long as I was home for supper.” This freedom eventually got Sandra into some tough situations. “As a teen I remember everyone having their own issues so we all just dealt with it: alone. I remember wanting someone to talk to. I didn’t know God or if he even existed.”
Her experiences from teen life are a big reason why Sandra is working with Youth Unlimited today. She currently spends her energy pouring into youth at Thomas Haney Secondary School and the community of Maple Ridge. “I help facilitate a student-led lunch club. I also lead volunteers and students putting on the breakfast program. I have a huge heart for youth.”
The programs that Sandra works in with YU allow her to build relationships with the youth in her life and in turn these connections help the youth open up to her. “There are a lot of hungry students in the Maple Ridge area. Not just physically hungry, but hungry for meaningful connections as well.”
Outside of youth, Jesus, and her two adorable children, Sandra has three passions — snowboarding, the mountains and Chick-Fil-A.
Together we can transform the world our youth live in—but we can’t do it without you.
