Why Tehya Wiebe is Sleeping Outside

In my experience with YUnite Outside, it opened my eyes to the lack of belonging, deep loneliness, and terrible rest that sleeping outside brings. A few years ago in a YUnite Outside, I remember holding on to nothing but a piece of cardboard and searching for a little space in a parking lot to lay down. I felt so lost that night. But after an uncomfortable sleep, I was able to go home the next day. But not everyone has the privilege of a safe house. Many youth have nothing but some cardboard and they have to sleep outside night after night. My experience has lead to a firm belief that no one should have to sleep outside. That’s why I want to experience a freezing, uncomfortable night in order to raise awareness for the many vulnerable youth that are without a safe place to call home.
