Matt Bergen

Matt and his wife Elya live in North Surrey and are learning to be an incarnational presence in the neighbourhood.

Matt has a story of redemption which drives his passion to witness Jesus transform hardened and marginalized youth through authentic relationships.

Matt spends time with youth in the North Surrey area through a drop-in games night and a young dads hockey program. He also has a heart for young men involved in the justice system and spends his time building relationships with guys at the youth jail. These relationships are often continued “on the outs” once the youth are released.

Matt spends his time walking alongside these youth and their families through the day-to-day grind. It means being there in the joys of life – when a baby is born, celebrating graduation, or when someone is getting married – but it also means being there in hard times – visiting youth when they get locked up, and being there when there has been a suicide or someone has been killed. Having flexibility intentionally built into his schedule allows Matt to be available to respond to whatever needs or crisis might arise, offering Spiritual care and comfort in times like these as well as being a resource to refer these young men and their families to other programs, organizations or people who may be of assistance to them.

Please prayerfully consider partnering with us in the ministry God is doing in Surrey.
